Praveen Kumar

Neurological Physiotherapist

Hello, I am Praveen and I offer physiotherapy and rehabilitation for patients with neurological conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS: BSc Physiotherapy, Paediatric Bobath
CSP: 070090
HCPC: PH64186

Member of ACPIN (Association of Chartered Physiotherapists Interested in Neurology), the AACP (Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists)

I work as a senior lecturer in Physiotherapy at the University of West of England, and this gives me a great opportunity to train future physiotherapists and keep abreast with the latest evidence in the field of physiotherapy.  I have been in private practice (evenings) since 2014.

The therapies I offer and my special interests: As a Chartered Physiotherapist I developed an interest in treating patients with neurological conditions early in my career. Now, having worked in this field for 23 years, I continue to gain tremendous experience through regular training, Continuous Professional Development, and conference attendance. I treat a wide range of neurological conditions using a functional approach in order to improve patients’ independence and quality of life.

My special interest is in stroke rehabiliation, with a particular focus on upper limb rehabilitation including management of post-stroke shoulder pain, and falls prevention and management in elderly and neurological populations.

Outside of work, I enjoy indoor games (table tennis, badminton) and play regularly with family and friends at leisure centres and UWE.  I also participate in badminton tournaments.

Why I do what I do: I have passion to work as a physiotherapist and I continue to undertake clinical practice despite being in academia.  It brings smile to my face when my patients with neurological problems show improvements, when they achieve their short and long term goals which overall helps to improve their quality of life.

Why book an appointment with me:  I take a patient centred approach and involve patients in setting their goals that are realistic and achievable. I can help you improve your strength, muscle tightness, balance, and posture using task-specific training. With my special interest in post-stroke shoulder pain, I can also help you manage this debilitating problem.
