The therapies I offer and my special interests: As a counsellor, I help people to explore parts of their lives that are affecting their mental wellbeing. This can mean working to unlock difficult or painful situations in which they find themselves, and enable them to make decisions as to how they want to move forward. Counselling can be helpful when you find yourself in challenging situations such as bereavement, loss, suffering from depression or anxiety or feelings low self-worth as well as the pressures of dealing with day-to-day life. These difficult situations can affect anyone, no matter what walk of life they are from, and yet they can affect everyone very differently. Not all types of counselling suit everyone, which is one reason why I use a number of approaches in my counselling sessions. Sometimes we struggle to express what we want to say verbally and at these times using other approaches can help. Depending on what feels comfortable for you we may use artwork and other materials (such as shells, buttons and colours), writing, or visualisations as well as discussion to explore what is going on for you. This is all done in a safe, calm and confidential space.
Whilst I enjoy general counselling, my special interests include working with bereavement and loss.
Why I do what I do: I recognise it takes courage and strength to seek help when you are struggling with life’s challenges, feel that you can't carry on or engage with those around you. To be that source of help and support at most difficult points in people's lives is incredibly humbling and moving. I have witnessed counselling first hand and witnessed the positive impact it can have on others to help them work through the difficult issues they face, improve their outlook and allow them to feel in control of their lives again.
